On 13th November 2011, Chris Luesley represented Sussex in the South East Region
Inter County Masters held at the new University pool in Guildford. Sussex were 1 of 7 counties 
competing for the title of best County in the South East Region and after a close battle throughout,
Sussex finished 3rd behind Middlesex and Hampshire the eventual winners. Chris competed in 2 
individual events, mens 25+ years 50 metres butterfly and 50 metres backstroke.



South East Region Masters - K2 Crawley Long Course Competition

On 2nd & 3rd February 2008, a number of Worthing senior and masters swimmers competed in the 1st South East Region gala of the year.

Chris Luesley, Paul McDavitt, Karen Wardley, Norman Griffin and Liz Fairs all competed in individual events during the two day competition.

On the 1st day, Worthing entered a team in the Mens 200 Years and over relay and came 4th, just 2 seconds off earning a medal.

On Day 2, Worthing entered 3 relays and achieved 3 silver medals with 2 coming in the 120 + years relays and 1 in the 200+ years relay.

The relay teams consisted of Norman Griffin, Claire Redman, Chris Luesley, Sian Udeen, Liz Fairs, Karen Wardley, Paul McDavitt and John Matthews.

Well done to all those involved in this competition and good luck with training, for the county masters on the 13th July where we are looking for continued success.

Join our Masters Swimming Team

If you are aged 18 or over, come and swim with us on Friday evenings at Wadurs from 8 - 9.30 in the evening. and Saturday Mornings at the Aquarena from 8 - 9 in the morning. These sessions have a coach and a set to follow.

You can also swim from 9 - 9.30 on tuesdays and thursday evenings.

We enter at least 3 competitions a year including the County Masters in July, and two South East Region Masters competitions in February and September.

South East Region Masters - Long Course

K2 Crawley - South East Region Masters - Long Course

Worthing had 4 swimmers entered in individual races.
These were Chris Luesley, Karen Wardley, Norman Griffin and Nic Piper.
A Gold medal was won by Chris for the 800 freestyle and a bronze
by Nic in the 50 metres Breastsroke.

2 Medals were also won in the mens relay, where Nic, Norman and Chris
were joined by Paul McDavitt and Ben Brazier, with a slightly different
team in each race.

British Masters & County Masters

British Masters

On 16th, 17th and 18th June, Chris Luesley and Jade Tate competed in the British Masters competition held at the Aquatics Centre in Manchester. After a long journey up on the Friday, Chris competed in the 1500 metres, 30 lengths of the 50 Metre Pool.

The result was a time of 20 Min 8 seconds and 2nd position in the 25 to 29 Mens Age Group. Later that day, Jade competed in the 200 Metres backstroke in the 18 to 24 Womens Age Group. Jade also finished 2nd in her age group with a time of 2Min 50.22. Therefore both swimmers collected silver medals from their 1st races, before going on to compete in a number of other races throughout the weekend with some Good times posted in the long course pool.

Results summary

County Masters

On 25th June 2006, 12 members of Worthing Swimming Club competed in the Sussex County Masters held at Horsham. This was a sizable entry considering the gala was held at the same time as an England World Cup Game.

The squad was as follows : Norman Griffin, John Matthews, Pam Pilbury, Joan Luesley, Barbara Willett, Neale Maloney, Nick Piper, Karen Wardley, Nicki Stirton, Jade Tate, David Boothby and Chris Luesley.

The squad won 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 Bronze medal from the relay competitions and 3 Gold, 6 Silver and 10 Bronze Medals from the individual races. (See Club Website for full details of results)

Nicki Stirton won the Ladies 25 29 Years Age Group 100 Metres Butterfly in a new County Record time of 1Min 15.28. The Mixed 76+ Years 4*25 Metre Medley relay time of 1 Min 07.44 will also stand as a county record as the event was in its inaugural year.
